Love and Infatuation

Sometimes you think that you love something or someone as if your life depended on it...but as you get close to that exotic flower, as you start living and spending time with the object of your desire, you realize that you have landed in Brobdingnag and suddenly the bloom is gone. This is called infatuation and it's the worst kind of emotion because it's one-sided, it's selfish, and it's hurtful to the other party. Love takes time, it is not an all-consuming spark of passion, it is a delicate crescendo of sentiments that penetrate and become part of the human fiber and soul. Love gives up everything, it does not possess or demands satisfaction. It provides you the wings to fly to unknown destinations and enjoy the moment with your soulmate.

WEEKEND IN WATERBURY, CONNECTICUT

The weekend is over...a mix bag of felicity and discontent. A wonderful dinner with dear and special friends in a local Mexican restaurant, a major and devastating disappointment from a Mexican friend, a rewarding lesson in Swedish, a pleasant surprise from a new friend in Sweden, the concerned telephone call from a friend in Naugatuck, the simple boredom of doing laundry, the delicious feast of tastes of well-cooked Mexican tamales,a kaleidoscope of feelings like water for chocolate, and the inner joyous dance in my heart when I heard on the telephone, for the first time ever, the voice of a friend in Mostoles, Spain who has been a great companion and comfort through earlier difficult times, the crazy conversation with another friend in Naugatuck and the soothing and exquisite voice of Annie Lennox bringing the night to a satisfying conclusion.

LIFE IS LIKE A SYMPHONY

Life is like Bethoven's Pastoral Symphony... a crescendo of power with a climax of thunder, lightning, and wind that threatens to extinguish your own existence, exposing your weaknesses and eroding your strenghts, and when you are about to perish, the Sun reappears evaporating the clouds in your horizon and letting you see that indeed life will go on, even if you have lost great possessions, great treasures, for the human spirit is resilient even if the heart is vanquished.
